Holiday season is upon us and here are some holiday activities taking place around Sacramento this weekend.

Folsom Ice Rink in Historic Folsom Plaza

If you’ve never been there, here are the answers to some of your questions:

  • You may bring your own skates or rent them there. Available sizes: 8-14
  • All tickets are sold online but there is a cashless ticket booth available (if any tickets left for that session) Season passes and gift certificates also available.
  • Free parking available in the parking garage.
  • No pets allowed.
  • Ice skate instructions available.

Nevada City Victorian Christmas

Wednesdays-Dec 6 & 13 from 5-9pm

If you have never experienced a Victorian Christmas, you don’t want to miss this. Roasted chestnuts, street vendors, Christmas treasures, authentic gas lamps, carolers dressed in Victorian attire, carriage rides, visiting Santa, street food, street performers. Sacred Heart Holiday Home Tour

Address: 1430 44th St (This is the address for house #1. You may start at any of the homes)
Dates: Dec 1 12pm – 8 pm. Dec 2 10am – 7 pm. Dec 3 11am – 5 pm

If you have ever driven through Fabulous Forties and wondered what the inside of these beautiful homes look like, here is your chance to check them out. Every year since 1973, during the first weekend of December, some of the residents of this neighborhood open their homes to the public for the Sacred Heart Parish School Holiday Home Tour. This year will be the 50th year this event is taking place in the Fabulous Forties neighborhood of East Sacramento and 6 decorated homes are ready to welcome you.
Tickets may be purchased here. General admission is $45. Senior citizens are $40. Kids under 3 must buy tickets.

Holiday Tree Lightings all over Sacramento Area

Make lasting holiday memories at one of the many tree lighting ceremonies in the greater Sacramento Area this holiday season.

  • Old Sacramento: Even though the tree lighting ceremony in Old Sacramento happened on Nov. 22, the Theater of Lights show is ongoing and happens Thrusday through Sunday at 6 pm and 7:30 until Dec 30.
  • West Sacramento: Christmas tree lighting is happening Dec.1 at 1110 West Capitol Ave from 6 pm to 9 pm. Kids activities and games, free pictures with Santa and more.
  • Elk Grove: Illumination Holiday Festival is happening on Dec 2 starting at 3 p.m. The event includes a vendor village, ice rink and giant snow globe for family photos.
  • Woodland: Woodland’s Holiday tree lighting will happen on Dec 1 on Main St. The tree is scheduled to be lit at 7 p.m., but the fun begins at 5 p.m. with tractor-wagon rides, live music, holiday treats and Santa.
  • Folsom: Folsom’s Historic District Christmas Tree Lighting is happening on December 1st from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be inflatable slides, taking photos with Santa and street performances.
  • Carmichael: Carmichael’s event will be taking place on Thursday, Dec. 7 at Carmichael Park from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. There will be live music, arts and crafts, photos with Santa and more.

Santa Parade @ The Capitol

Address: 14th St and N Streets by Capitol Park
When: Dec. 9 @ 10 a.m
Santa Claus will return to downtown Sacramento as part of the 40th annual Santa Parade. There will be marching bands, horses and antique cars.

Imaginarium Holiday Light Festival

When: Through Jan 7

This 5 million lights, light festival includes Fairytale Garden, Enchanted Fantasyland Forest with twinkling lights and kaleidoscope Infinity Mirrors. There will also be meeting the Santa, ice rink and play carnival games.
Tickets are $25 Monday through Thursday and $27 from Friday through Sunday.

Downtown Ice Rink

Tickets are $15 at the door and $8 for children 6 years and under.

Magical Christmas Train

Magical Christmas Train ride will take you to winter wonderland. Holiday tradition that is fun for the whole family. Tickets are $59 and includes a 1-hour train ride, hot cocoa, a souvenir mug and a cookie. There will be Santa’s elves to guide passengers in holiday sing-a-longs and more.
