Elk Grove is a city  in County of Sacramento, about 15 miles south of the state capital. Interstate I-5 and California State Highway 99 both run through the city. Sacramento International Airport is only about 25 minutes away. Being located on the southern edge of Sacramento county, makes Elk Grove a desirable destination for those who need to commute to Stockton, Modesto, San Francisco and Southern California.  Throughout most of its history, Elk Grove has relied on agriculture, vineyards and livestock industries. However, more recently, it has been transitioning to more high-tech and professional service and retail enterprises. Population of Elk Grove is 176,000, making it the second most populous city in county of Sacramento and it was the fastest growing city in the U.S. between 2004-2005. Median Household Income in Elk Grove is $106,797, compared to $69,021 nationally.

Things to do in Elk Grove

There’s plenty to keep everyone busy in Elk Grove:

  • Go for a swim at Elk Grove Aquatics Center. Whether one wants to learn to swim, swim competitively or just have fun and cool off on the hot summer days with the family,  this place offers it all. This aquatic center features a competition pool, a 25 yard instructional pool and a recreational pool with water slides. There’s also Jerry Fox Swim Center and Wackford Aquatic Complex to check out.

    Great way to spend time with family on those hot summer days.

  • Taste some local wine at McConnel Estates Winery. Just north of Cosumnes River and  along highway 99, Wackman Family has been farming this land for five generations. The winery is available for private parties as well as weddings. They also have public events like “Barn Night Kick Off” with live music and food. Here’s a photo gallery of the place.

  • Learn about Elk Grove’s history at Elk Grove House and Stage Shop Museum. Built by the city’s founding father, James Hall in 1850, the original hotel was a welcome sight for weary travelers arriving by stagecoach. Unfortunately, the hotel was torn down in 1957 to make room for expansion of highway 99. The current building is a replica of the original historic hotel.

  • Jump & Bounce with the whole family at Rockin’ Jumps Trampoline. Park’s attractions include “Jump Arena”, “Dodgeball Arena”, “Slam Dunk Zone” and “X-Beam” where “you work to maintain your balance while trying to knock your opponent from the beam”.
  • Play golf at Emerald Lakes Golf Course. They offer both, adult and junior programs and have been around for 20 years.

    A great golf experience for all ages and skill levels.

  • Go for a walk, run or just stroll around in Elk Grove Regional Park. This 122 acre park is in the heart of Elk Grove and is free and it is open year-round from sunrise to sunset. Strauss Festival takes place there every July. Check their website for more information.

This zip code covers the area north of  Elk Grove Blvd, south of Cosumnes River Blvd, east of highway 5 and west of I-99. About 2/3  of the homes here, were built between 70’s and 2000. The other 1/3 are built in the boom of the real estate between 2000 and present. There are only a couple of homes which were built in 2019. Median price of single family homes here is about $580,000.

This large zip code sits just south of Elk Grove Blvd, east and west of of highway 5 and west of I-99. The southern edge of this zip code is rural and not built and further south, it borders Cosumnes River Preserve, a great place for outdoor activities including birdwatching. Unlike its northern zip code, vast areas of this zip code is not built and is protected or agricultural. Out of 90 for sale homes in this zip code, 87 are track homes, built after 2000. There are only 3 older homes and all 3 are with acreage 8,15 and 40 acre lots. All these three homes are on the southern part of the zip code, south of Hood Franklin Rd. Median price (of the track homes only) is $730,000. There are good number of brand new homes being built there.

This zip code lies south of Calvin Rd and east of I-99 all the way to Jackson Rd in Sloughouse. Out of 38 listings in this zip code, only 5 have acreage and they are located on the eastern part of the zip code. The rest are all track homes and majority of them are older, built between 1915 to 2000. Only a handful are “newer”, built after 2000.
