There isn’t a better way to spend winter than to cuddle up in front of a fireplace in a cozy cabin with a cup β˜•οΈ of cocoa in hand. Is there? And if you are living in Sacramento, you’re only a couple of hours away from the coast and the Sierras, where there is plenty of rental AirBnB’s waiting their next visitor. Doesn’t make any difference if you want to hit the slopes or enjoy the winter snow from inside, there are options for every taste. However, it may be hard to decide where to spend that hard-to-forget-weekend. Following are some of the best cabin rentals within a few hours of Sacramento for that unforgettable winter getaway.

Serenity Under the Majestic Pines (Graeagle)

Distance from Sacramento: 146 miles
Graeagle is 46 miles north-west of Truckee and only 75 miles from Reno. It is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains hence, lots of pine 🌲 trees, lakes, rivers, nature hikes and wildlife 🐻. In the summer, one can also enjoy an 18-hole championship golf πŸŒοΈβ€β™€οΈcourse, horseback πŸ‡πŸ½ riding and campgrounds.
The Cabin: This beautiful cabin offers a large yard, 3 decks, gourmet kitchen πŸ”ͺ, sauna and a hot tub πŸ§–!

Newly Updated Cabin + Jacuzzi (Tahoe City)

Distance from Sacramento: 112 miles
Tahoe City is at the outlet of the Truckee River, at the northern part of magnificent Lake Tahoe. (Did you know that Lake Tahoe is one of the most pure bodies of water in the world with 99.994% of the water pure. (Commercially distilled water is 99.998% pure.) Once in Tahoe City, you can enjoy skiing β›·, hiking, fishing 🐠and kayaking πŸš£πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ. It even offers a nude beach which for most of us will be a summer activity. 😁
The Cabin: It is newly updated and located in the quiet neighborhood of Pineland. It is situated on 0.7 of an acre and is just a short walk to Kilner Park, Sunnyside Resort, and Firesign CafΓ©, West Shore Market and Lake Tahoe!

Double Lot Lakeview (Kings Beach)

Distance to Sacramento: 113 miles
Kings Beach is also in North Lake Tahoe.
The Cabin: It has been voted as a “Guest Favorite” by Airbnb guests. It is walking distance to town, lake view and only a short drive to major North Shore Ski β›· resorts.

Cozy A-Frame + a Large Loft (South Lake Tahoe)

Distance to Sacramento: 103 miles
Everything I said before about North Lake Tahoe, applies to South Lake Tahoe as well: Skiing β›·, hiking, kayaking, fishing 🐠, parasailing, horseback riding, πŸ‡πŸ½, restaurants, bars and casinos too. If you’ve never been to Zephyr Cove, you need to check it out. It’s my favorite spot on South Lake Tahoe.
The Cabin: This two bedroom πŸ›Œ plus a large loft cozy A-Frame cabin has a yard w/ a new deck & a fire πŸ”₯pit. It is dog πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί 🐢 friendly and is only minutes from the city and all it has to offer.

I love South Lake Tahoe, so here is another home for your family’s stay there.
The Cabin: The main level has two private queen bedrooms πŸ›Œ and a full bath. The upper level has a master with an ensuite bathroom and jacuzzi tub. Fast internet is also available just in case one needs to work remotely.

Rustic Roadside Cabin (Grass Valley)

Distance from Sacramento: 57 miles
Grass Valley is located in Nevada County, north east of Sacramento, off of highway 80, which takes you to Reno. It takes only about an hour to reach it from Sacramento. You can go wine 🍷 tasting and pretty much everything one can expect to find in a small town California. Lots of California Gold πŸ†Rush history there, including Empire Mine State Park and Grass Valley Museum.
The Cabin: This is a “glamping” cabin, (I had to look up that word) built in the corner of the owners property. There is a camp kitchen, bathroomπŸ› and a queen bed πŸ›Œ. Pets 🐢 are allowed as long as they don’t get on the bed. This is a perfect treat for someone who does’t want to drive 🚘 as far as Lake Tahoe but wants a change of scenery 🌴 and is not in love with sleeping in the tent ⛺️. And for $75 / night, it’s affordable : even camp grounds cost $40 to $90 / night these days.

Lake House Retreat (Clear Lake)

Distance from Sacramento: 123 miles
If you’re not a fan of snow, then this is for you:
Clear Lake is north west of Sacramento, and north of Calistoga, in Lake County. Water sports, fishing 🐠 (I read somewhere that it’s called the “Bass Capital” of the west) and wine 🍷 tasting (more affordable and relaxed than Napa) are some of the favorite activities.
The Cabin: Breathtaking sunsets πŸŒ… plus fishing 🎣 from the dock is what you can expect from this 2 bedroom, 2 bath πŸ› on-the-lake property. One can see the reflection of the moon πŸŒ— on the lake, specially when it’s full or near full moon.
