During the hot months of summer, (or anytime Really!!) ice skating can be a fun family or single person activity. Skatetown offers Youth & Adult Beginner Hockey Classes, Beginner Skating Class & Learn to Curl Classes. And it’s not really all that expensive: General Admission is $15 and Skate Rental is only $4. Hike Horsetail Falls (Along Highway 50)

Easy hiking Not too far from Sacramento

If you want to get out of the heat, do some easy hiking and you don’t want to drive too far, and enjoy some stunning view, Horsetail Falls checks all the boxes. It’s along highway 50, after Strawberry and before you get to Echo Summit. There is a parking lot. Last time I was there, parking was $5. Play it safe and have two $5’s available. There is bathrooms at the trailhead too. Hiking is easy but you will need hiking shoes, too steep and rocky for tennis shoes. We took our dogs off leash and they absolutely love it there. Just make sure you pick up after them. Expect a good 1:35 drive from Downtown Sacramento, so you don’t have to leave town super early. Bring food or be ready to eat at Lake Tahoe.
