Spotlight Ballroom offers Ballroom Dancing, Midtown Stomp Swing Dancing and even Zumba. You can call them and schedule a free 30-minute introductory private lesson with one of the instructors. After that, they have “many different memberships to suit everyone’s needs”.

Tour The CHP Academy

Address: 3500 Reed Ave | West Sacramento

Kids will love this one: This training facility is the only law enforcement facility of its type in the State of California. The academy trains the cadets for 27 weeks before graduating them to become Highway Patrol Officers. The tours must be pre-arranged by calling their office. On Wednesdays, they have a ceremony to give tribute to the fallen officers. CHP has a busy schedule and must free up an officer to give the public a tour. 916-372-0783


Go Bowling at Capital Bowl

Address: 900 W Capitol Ave | West Sacramento

Capitol Bowl, where the good times roll, is a modern bowling alley with a famous kitchen and bar. It is popular for birthday parties and company parties, as well. According to CBS News, it was the first racially integrated bowling alley in Nor Cal and “the first to have women-only leagues” and has been making history since it was called El Rancho Bowl. When one imagines Sacramento, only wineries and vineyards might come to mind. But the truth is that there are over 20 breweries scattered all over the Greater Sacramento area, serving some of the best craft beer there is. Three of those breweries are located in West Sacramento & all are 🐕‍🦺 friendly.
Jack Rabbit Brewing has “Gluten reduced beer”, live band and other activities.
Bike Dog Brewing Company has live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
Drake’s: The Barn has PizzaSmith or (Food Truck), a 400 seat beer garden, outdoor bar, and fire pits.

Visit a Local Winery 🍷

Baker Family Winery is the only winery located in city of West Sacramento. It is located in the same building as Bike Dog Brewery at 2568 Industrial Blvd. (Kill a beer and a wine with one shot. 😆) On Wednesdays, one can enjoy Trivia Game Nights and on Fridays, live bands starting at around 5. Their menu consists of Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Albarino, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. To get a tour of the winery, it is advised that they are contacted ahead of time. 916.873.8863

Another option would be to visit Old Sugar Mill which is only 15 minutes south of downtown Sacramento, in Clarksburg (also reachable from West Sacramento). It is an old beet sugar refinery which has been transformed to a place for 14 wineries to come together and offer their customers a wine tasting experience, without driving over an hour to Napa Valley. Immerse Yourself in Art: Van Gogh Exhibit

Since 2017, over 5,000,000 visitors have toured the exhibit, all over the globe. As of June of 2023, the Sacramento area exhibit is in West Sacramento. One viewer described it as “the closest one can come to viewing heaven for the first time”. Come and see this exhibit and have lunch 🌮 or dinner 🍔 at one of West Sacramento’s restaurants. See above.

Visit West Sacramento Rec Center: Pool, Gym, Climbing Wall, Pickleball & More

West Sacramento Recreations Center is owned and operated by the City of West Sacramento. It is located right next to River City High School, off of Jefferson Blvd. It’s a family oriented “Rec Center” with lap pool (for those over 13), kids’ pool, gym, basketball 🏀 court, tennis 👟 ct, pickleball, group exercises like yoga and a climbing wall. Shop @ Ikea

West Sacramento is home to the only Ikea in the Greater Sacramento Area. Ikea’s products are economical, functional and contemporary. For someone on a budget, who wants to make their home look great, Ikea can be godsend. From cork screw to furniture, Ikea has it all. It even has a section where they sell the returned items for a fraction of the new items. And don’t forget to visit their food section on the way out, the home to the only frozen yogurt cone in the world for $1:50.

West Sacramento is home to the only Ikea in Sacramento.

Visit The State Capitol Museum (Free)

Address: 1315 10th St | Sacramento

From Monday through Friday, 9 to 5, one can visit the State Capitol Museum for free. Public tours run from 10 to 4, on the hour. What can one expect to learn? “architecture, history, and development of the California State Capitol from its initial construction 150 years ago to the modern day” & also “about California’s electoral processes, the Assembly and Senate, California governors and first ladies, and historic pieces of legislation.” Interesting fact: It was built between 1861 to 1874 & building’s architectural style is Neoclassical!!!


Sacramento Regional Fire Museum

Address: 3650 Industrial Blvd | West Sacramento

The Sacramento Regional Fire Museum is a privately funded non-profit started to preserve, exhibit and educate about the rich history of firefighters in the Sacramento region. They are open from 10 to 2 on selected days. It is better to check their page on Facebook and Instagram for updates. One fan wrote”it’s so worth the time though, great for kids! Features many vintage, restored Sacramento fire department trucks and trucks from Yolo county. Lot’s of great history excerpts, and all sorts of other great things to check out. Very affordable, sometimes free, and you can tell the staff is really passionate about the project. They’re all volunteers as far as I’m aware.”
