Pocket-Greenhaven(also known as “The Pocket”) is a community (not a city) located in the southwestern area of Sacramento. It is only 5 miles south of downtown Sacramento and thus a very desirable location since it is “close to everything”. It is bordered by the Sacramento River on the south, west and north and Interstate 5 on the east. Sacramento International Airport is only about 20 minutes away. Population of the Pocket is about 28,000 with wan average household income of $133,000. Neighborhoods range from middle class homes to posh gated communities. Upscale community of Riverlake is located in the Pocket. That development started in 1987 and is comprised of 1010 homes, with 150 of them being lakefront lots.

Things to do in The Pocket
Pocket has 19 parks, access to Sacramento River and canals.
- Ride your bike, go for a run/walk or feed the turtles at Seymour Park. It connects to the Pocket Canal Parkway and Sacramento River Parkways and is about a 2.2 walk/bike to the Sacramento River where you can ride into downtown or Old Sac (seven to eight miles). At the southern edge of the park, one can find the canal where there are ducks and turtles to feed.
- Play tennis, soccer or basketball at Garcia Bend Park. It has a nature area and a boat ramp. Boat launch annual pass is only $125.
- Take the kids to Sacramento Zoo in Landpark to see the Snow Leopards. (Check zoo’s website to see what animals they currently have) It is only a short drive, north east of the pocket. Or ride your bike there. It’s a beautiful and scenic route, only 5 miles away.
- Play golf at Bing Maloney Golf Course. It is only 3 miles from the heart of Pocket. They offer classes for the novice as well as the experienced golfers.
- Visit the Capitol Museum in Downtown Sacramento. It is open and free to the public M-F 9am-5pm. It is free and educational. Tours run 10am-4pm. Capital Park is always open and a free tour is offered on Sundays at 1:00pm. Check the websites for details.

Homes For Sale in The Pocket
Pocket comprises most of the 95831 zip code. The eastern boundary of that zip code extends to Freeport Boulevard.
There are currently 13 properties on the market in the Pocket. One is a one bedrooms condominium for $269,000. (Often, one can find a condo in this neighborhood).
There are ten track homes for sale ranging from $519,000 to $875,000, all built in 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Pocket was mostly built during those decades and there are very few, if any newer homes in this market. Gated community of Riverlake was built in the 90’s and 2000’s. And there is currently one property in that community for sale for $1.5 million. Rarely a property comes on the market in the Pocket with acreage. There is one on the market which was built in 1881 and is listed for $1.6,000,000. It is over 4 acres and it is riverfront.
