Arden-Arcade is not a city but a “Census-designated place” situated in the heart of Sacramento County with a population of 94,659 as of 2020. It is east of city of Sacramento and west of community of Carmichael.
Boundaries: Arden-Arcade’s northern border is formed by Auburn Boulevard and Arcade Creek, its southern border is primarily the American River, its western border is Ethan Way and its eastern border is formed by Walnut Avenue, Cypress Avenue, and Mission Avenue. Arden is located
Interesting Historical Facts:
- Nisenan indigenous people were the first residents of what is now known as Arden-Arcade area.
- The land was originally part of a Mexican land grant deeded to John Sutter
- Around 1916, given the fertile soil and the excellent supply of water, many Scandinavian immigrants settled there.
- The area around Gibbons Park was known as “Little Norway” because so many Norwegian families settled there.
Many of the major arterial streets that criss-cross through Arden-Arcade are named for the major inventors of the Industrial Revolution. It is assumed they were named around 1915 by Orlando Robertson, the main property owner of the historic Rancho Del Paso at the time. The street names appear as the following in the archives immediately after this time:

- Howe Avenue (Elias Howe – sewing machine)
- Whitney Avenue (Eli Whitney – cotton gin)
- Edison Avenue (Thomas Edison – light bulb)
- Marconi Avenue (Guglielmo Marconi – radio)
- Fulton Avenue (Robert Fulton – steamboat)
- Morse Avenue (Samuel Morse – telegraph)
- Bell Street (Alexander Graham Bell – telephone)

Arden is one of the top neighborhoods to live in Sacramento. It is not too far from Downtown and very close to Sacramento State University. Median price of single family homes in Arden is about $693K (January 2023) with 5 homes over $2 million and one property listed for $3.5 million. There are plenty of condominiums available with median price of $242K, mostly between Howe Ave and Fulton Ave.
There are also some income properties available ranging from almost 700K for a duplex to an almost $7million property for 40 unit apartment complex.
